Streamlines: Applications to Reservoir Simulation, Characterization and Management - SRS

He is the recipient of the John Franklin Carll Award of the Society of Petroleum Engineers for distinguished contribution in the application of engineering principles to petroleum development and recovery. Prior to that, he received the Lester C. Uren Award of the Society of Petroleum Engineers SPE for significant technical contributions in petroleum reservoir characterization and streamline-based flow simulation. Raymond Award About the course Designed For You will learn Course Content The use of streamline technology is becoming common for reservoir flow visualization, dynamic reservoir characterization, and optimal flood management. The power of the streamlines can be exploited using both finite-difference and streamline simulators. This course is not limited to streamline simulation but exposes the power of streamlines in general.

SPE Member Price USD Streamline Simulation: Theory and Practice presents a systematic exposition of current streamline simulation technology—its foundations, historical precedents, applications, field studies, and limitations. This text book emphasizes the unique features of streamline technology that in many ways complement conventional finite-difference simulation. The book should appeal to a broad audience in petroleum engineering and hydrogeology; it has been designed for use by undergraduate and graduate students, current practitioners, educators, and researchers. Included in the book is a CD-ROM with a working streamline simulator and exercises to provide the reader with hands-on experience with the technology. Raymond Award and has served on numerous industry and professional society committees. Michael J.

Computational Geosciences. Waterflooding is a common secondary oil recovery process. However, a major bottleneck in the optimization framework is the large number of reservoir flow simulations often required. In this work, we propose a new method based on streamline-derived information that significantly reduces these computational costs in addition to making use of the computational efficiency of streamline simulation itself. We seek to maximize the long-term net present value of a waterflood by determining optimal individual well rates, given an expected albeit uncertain oil price and a total fluid injection volume. We approach the optimization problem by decomposing it into two stages which can be implemented in a computationally efficient manner.
