A collection of short stories from one of the most critically acclaimed authors in the fantasy genre, Robin Hobb. Including work written under her pseudonym, Megan Lindholm.
The past few months have been difficult to find much reading time and even harder to find time to sit down and review that which I have read. Bee does not receive a lot of page-time in this novel, and when she does the complete juxtaposition in character from that of her father rubs a little raw at times. However, I choose to see that as an example of just how well Robin Hobb has written these characters that the reader is so easily able to see that they have jumped perspective and are now in the mind of a completely different character. In the same vein, Robin Hobb is able to write the Fool in just such a way that he is completely and utterly believably a selfish jerk throughout the vast majority of this book, leaving me, the reader, feeling thoroughly uncomfortable at having to sit through portions of the book where he is whining about one thing or another. But the twist in this is not that the character is badly written, but that his situation has created a person so deeply traumatised and simultaneously hell-bent on revenge that all common-sense and reason has been eaten away, leaving behind only the shell of what once was, and in its place a vengeful and hateful, yet cowardly and fearful replacement.
Start by marking “Fool's Quest (The Fitz and The Fool, #2)” as Want to Read: Acclaimed and bestselling author Robin Hobb continues her Fitz and the Fool trilogy with this second entry, following Fool’s Assassin, ramping up the tension and the intrigue as disaster continues to.

A s George RR Martin takes his time over a new instalment from the Game of Thrones world, much to the frustration of his legions of fans, fellow fantasy writer Robin Hobb has finished the final book in her part series. More than 20 years ago, Hobb set out to tell the story of the bastard son of a prince, assassin FitzChivalry Farseer. Hobb, who is softly spoken and carefully deliberate in her choice of words, sounds relieved about coming to the end of a story she felt she had finished at least twice before. Embarking on the final novel was, she says, a scary prospect. And she was wary of the trap many fantasy writers fall into of letting their story get away from them, unravelling hopelessly over an endless series of volumes. Her writing is superb, her world-building irresistible, her storylines both hell-for-leather exciting and deeply introspective.
