Book Series I'm quiting

Justin Somper

Hmmm, only by the synopsis I wouldn't have added this book to my TBR list, but after reading your review, and you comparing it to Grave Mercy I'm really going to give this one a try! And the timeline being only 5 days? That sounds fantastic! Great review, Alyssa! I feel like comparing this one to Grave Mercy might be a bit of a stretch, but then, not really. It's a very packed book!

British author Justin Somper begins his latest series with the assassination of the prince of Archenfield. They also request the guardsmen at the borders to lock down the gates, as the hunt begins for the assassin. Once I was over the lack of fantasy, I was able to engage with the novel on its own terms. This is a murder-mystery whodunit with political overtones, set in medieval times, and it has more in common with Agatha Christie than George R. In my homeland, we have clocks, and as a consequence, far fewer headaches. I confess after spending ample time with the young prince in his point-of-view chapters, Somper nearly had me rooting for the assassin s to hurry up and finish the job.
