Contrasting two entertainment mediums can give us insight and a better understanding of the positive and negative aspects of both. Books and music have a way of influencing people in different aspects. Certain individuals enjoy listening to music while others enjoy reading books. However there are many similarities and differences between both, and they certainly affect people in different ways. One of the biggest influences reading a book can have over us is our emotional state. Reading books help us relieve our emotions, but over a certain period of time, not instantly.

Similarities Between the Music & Book Industries

Music is most often used to create or enhance a mood, while books are intended to convey information. Music, with or without song, is a principally an aural experience. While music may be written, it serves only to instruct the instrumentalist in rendition of the music. A song may be fairly blunt, or poetic, or even tell a story, but it is generally constrained to the style and rhythm of the accompanying score, otherwise it is no longer song, but simply someone reciting speech with background music- not entirely unheard of, even if usually in parody. A book is a printed or written or digital text work with the main purpose of conveying information directly to the reader. Books may also comprise diagrams, pictures, musical notation, fact or fiction, and many other types of information; books serve as tools of education and instruction as well as entertainment.

They noted that there were certain things which were impermanent and other things to which the word impermanence did not apply. I spent June composing and July writing a book. Both are enjoyable and self-fulfilling activities; I am fortunate. It saddens me that the book feels like so much more solid an achievement. The music might never get played, it might get played badly, there might not be a recording, people might not like it or not get it, it may disappear into the ether.
